BMW In-Car Digital Business Services Makes Your Commute More Effective

August 22nd, 2017 by

Between the current offering of fully-integrated Microsoft Exchange and upcoming connectivity with Skype for Business, BMW is providing you with the ability to transform your BMW into a mobile office — allowing you to spend your commute time in a more productive manner.

BMW is the first manufacturer to utilize Microsoft Exchange to provide a secure, in-vehicle connection to your email accounts. This allows you to stay safe and connected, reducing the urge to check your smartphone every time it chimes with a new email or appointment. You can schedule appointments and compose emails via voice control, while incoming emails and appointment changes are presented on the Control Display. You even have the capability to import addresses for your appointments into the vehicle’s navigation system.

Coming this fall, Microsoft’s Skype for Business will be available in BMW vehicles. It’s operated through the iDrive system, so upcoming Skype meetings are identified and flagged on the Control Display. To take part in a meeting, all you have to do is press the iDrive controller.

In a press release, Dieter May, Senior Vice President Digital Products and Services, stated, “With BMW Connected we offer a wide range of digital services designed to help users with their daily mobility needs inside and outside of the car. We seek to continuously extend and enhance the customer experience with regard to all aspects of their mobility. The integration of productivity features in-car (like Exchange and Skype for Business) and personalized and contextual services will help customers with their day-to-day work and planning while they are on the road.”
