While competition may be cutthroat in the SUV world, the 2020 BMW X7 makes winning look easy thanks to tailored luxuries that other SUVs simply cannot provide, no matter how hard they try. Dive in with us as we unpack the greatness of the 2020 BMW X7, and examine how the dated 2020 Audi rightfully lost its place at the top of the food chain. As always, to explore the bountiful BMW X7 in person, make your way down to Hilton Head BMW, and take this dynamic full-size SUV out for a test drive.
Make an Entrance
The 2020 BMW X7 doesn’t just feature attractive styling; the full-size SUV features a captivating presence. Sleek LED headlights illuminate the road ahead, while the large iconic BMW twin-kidney grille proudly boasts the SUV’s heritage. As you look below, the lower fascia boasts the SUV’s athleticism without lowering its first-class status. Examine the SUV’s sculpted body and you’ll instantly become mesmerized by its muscular proportions that soften just enough to reflect intimidation. As you examine its stylish rear hatch, you’ll notice its wideset LED taillights that exude class and circumstance, while its available 22-inch wheels boast sophistication.
The 2020 Audi Q7 struggles to match the Q7’s style and sophistication, and it shows. Featuring a facelifted version of its original 2006 design, its age is apparent. Nevertheless, its rather unexciting headlights feature LED technology, and its oversized grille tries to impress you as it holds the Audi crest. Body styling is neither here nor there, as it resembles a lengthened version of its smaller Q5 sibling while riding on standard 19-inch wheels.
Undeniable Performance
As expected from a BMW, power, and performance come standard. The 2020 BMW X7 is no exception, providing a 3.0L BMW TwinPower Turbocharged Inline 6-cylinder engine that generates a robust 335 horsepower along with 330lb-ft of torque. BMW mates its flagship engine to a slick ZF 8-speed automatic transmission that allows the full-size SUV to sprint to 60 MPH in just 5.8 seconds. xDrive, BMW’s all-wheel-drive system comes standard for all-weather control and handling. The 2020 BMW X7 doesn’t stop at just one engine, but instead, it provides a lineup of powerhouses. Opt for the X7 M50i model, and you’ll enjoy a 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 engine that produces a whopping 523 horsepower and 553lb-ft of torque, sending you to 60MPH in just 4.5 seconds. Though the BMW may be lighting fast, its the perfect gentleman, providing standard dual-axle two-level air suspension for only the most refined road manners.
The same cannot be said for the Audi, which uses an especially small engine to move the full-size SUV. Its flagship 2.0-liter 4-cylinder produces 248 horsepower and 273lb-ft of torque, but this same engine is found in much smaller vehicles, like the Audi A4, a sedan. The result is an SUV that lugs to 60MPH just shy of 7 seconds–not even in the same ballpark as the BMW X7.
Safety is Never Optional in the X7
The 2020 BMW X7 brings an array of standard driver-assist safety features, so you and your family can rest assured that you’re protected. The standard Active Driving Assistant brings intelligent features like Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assistant, and more, letting you drive with confidence. If that’s not enough, then maybe the Automatic High Beams and barrage of dual-stage airbags with rollover sensor will ease your mind.
Confidence is key, but in the Audi A7, the confidence is lacking. Opt for the 2020 Audi A7, and you’ll enjoy Audi Pre Sense Basic® and Front, which also comes with Lane Departure Warning–we told you its age was showing. The standard technology works to monitor your lane position and can emit an audible and visual alert if you drift out of your lane without a signal, or if you’re quickly approaching a stopped vehicle. If no action is taken, the Audi can take action to prevent or minimize a collision, but it is in no way as robust and sophisticated as the BMW’s suite of safety technology.
Luxury at its Finest
Climb inside the 2020 BMW X7, and you’ll immediately become engulfed in its luxury, and pristine engineering. Going for the WOW-factor, the X7 features amenities that include available quilted leather seats that make accommodations for up to seven passengers. If seven is a crowd, the X7 welcomes you to take advantage of six fully electric power adjustable captains chairs, so each passenger can enjoy tailored comfort, while the driver and front passenger enjoy amenities like heated seats with available massage and ventilation functions. Though luxurious and over the top, the accommodating SUV features more than enough cargo space, making room for up to 90.4 cubic feet of space.
Not so much can be said about the Audi, which gives you minimum amenities needed to be considered a luxury SUV. Though it passes as such, you’d be hard-pressed to find an amenity that outdoes the BMW. Standard features include heated front seats and a moonroof. Three-zone climate control doesn’t match BMW’s standard 4-zone climate control, and the cargo space measures just 69.4 cubic feet.
Enjoy a Connected Ride
The 2020 Audi Q7 wants you to be impressed by its 10.3-inch touchscreen display that brings the likes of Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, but step into the BMW and a world of connectivity greets you. A 12.3-inch instrument cluster matches the equally large center iDrive infotainment system. Whether you need navigation, entertainment, or information, it all awaits on the incredibly responsive and intuitive system. The system even features multiple input capabilities that let you choose whether you want to use steering wheel controls, gesture controls, voice activation, the touchscreen, or the iDrive rotary dial. If you’re ever tempted to reach for your smartphone, standard wireless Apple CarPlay® takes away that urge, letting you wirelessly access Apple CarPlay®, while passengers enjoy available 4G LTE Wi-Fi for fast browsing, streaming, and web surfing.
